Council Supports Communities To Clean Up As Part Of Country's Biggest Mass-action Environmental Campaign

Thursday 28th Mar 2024

Conwy County Borough Council is supporting this year’s Spring Clean Cymru, run by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy.

The campaign, which runs from 22 March to 23 April, will see thousands of people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.

Spring Clean Cymru is part of the Great British Spring Clean. In 2018, around 370,000 #LitterHeroes joined forces – despite the Beast from the East – to collect litter at 13,500 events across the UK.

This year’s campaign will not only see tonnes of litter being removed from the environment on our doorstep, it also aims to rescue thousands of the plastic bottles and aluminium drinks cans that are simply thrown on the ground but could, very easily, be recycled.

Using the ‘three bags full’ approach, volunteers will be asked to separate the litter they pick into three bags: one for plastic bottles; one for aluminium cans and a third for the rest of the rubbish.

Conwy County Borough Council will be offering bags and collection services to groups that register with Spring Clean Cymru to take part in the campaign.

Cllr Donald Milne, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Facilities said: “We live in a beautiful part of the world and we want to keep it that way, for residents and visitors. We’re grateful to all the local groups doing their bit with a sense of community pride.”

Lesley Jones Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive said: “Spring Clean Cymru brings together individuals, community groups, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep. We are delighted that Conwy County Borough Council is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank them for their support. Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”
