ADAPT – Agencies Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Tasking

A new pilot, ADAPT,  has been launched in Central Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit to work with repeat perpetrators of domestic abuse in order to enrol them with partnership agencies and support programmes to reduce the risk they pose to their victims.

Following the successful launch which was attended by all the key partnership agencies, Detective Sergeant Katie Ellis said: “It’s about bringing organisations together, getting repeat perpetrators to change their mind-set and their behaviour.”

She explained that there are similar processes in place to safeguard repeat victims, but more onus needs to be put the on perpetrators to change their behaviour.

As part of the pilot partnership agencies will be dealing with identified nominals from the Conwy and Denbighshire areas.

“We want them to work with us to acknowledge their behaviour is wrong,” said Det Sgt Ellis,

“This will be a preventative process, tackling the issues at source. It is not a quick fix – it is problem solving on a large scale”

There will be a multi-agency meeting every 4 weeks to discuss the progress of the individuals involved.
