The first week of October bodes to be a busy week for the residents of Denbighshire as they prepare to celebrate and welcome the Urdd National Eisteddfod to the county in May 2020.

Concert and CânSing Jamboree

On 3 October the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre will be packed with over 1000 children from the area coming together to welcome the Eisteddfod to Denbighshire in a Jamboree led by Jenny Pearson of CânSing and Welsh National Opera.

That evening also features a concert showcasing and celebrating local talent. The evening's artists include Côr Cytgan Clwyd, Indigo Academy, Only Boys Aloud, Welsh National Opera and the DMC Senior Brass Ensemble as well as a choir of 250 children from Llywelyn, Y Castell, Emmanuel, Christchurch and Trefnant schools who will sing with WNO soloist Kiefer Jones.

Tickets for the concert are available from the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre for £10 per adult and £5 per child by calling 01745 330 000.

2020 Denbighshire Urdd Eisteddfod Proclamation Event

On Saturday, 5 October, as part of the Proclamation Event, Cambria Band will lead a parade which will leave Prestatyn High School at 11am and make its way through the town towards Bastion Gardens for an afternoon of free entertainment for the whole family. Over 2000 are expected to join the fun.

Huw and Elin from S4C’s Cyw, DMC Senior Brass Band, Y Trwbz and performances from local schools and clubs will entertain from the stage during the afternoon.

As well as performances on the stage, there will be a variety of stalls and activities including sports sessions and circus skills sessions with Cimera.

Leader of Denbighshire County Council, Councillor Hugh Evans OBE, said: “We are eagerly awaiting the return of the Eisteddfod to Denbighshire and look forward to welcoming the festival to the county.

"There is already a lot of excitement in the county, with communities having been busy raising money by holding a wide variety of events.

"There is a strong eisteddfodic and cultural tradition here in Denbighshire and enthusiastic individuals have worked with the Urdd to organise a festival to remember.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone to the proclamation event before our attention turns to the main festival which will take place in May and to show the rest of Wales how beautiful and welcoming Denbighshire is.”

Morys Gruffydd, Acting Director of the Urdd Eisteddfod, added: “We’re looking forward to a busy week in Rhyl and Prestatyn and we’re very grateful to the people of Denbighshire, the County Council, the Executive Committee, and all of the local councils and organisations for their welcome and support as we all prepare to bring the Urdd Eisteddfod to the region.”

 Banner Competition

Schools and clubs are encouraged to design and create banners to promote the Denbighshire Urdd Eisteddfod and for them to be carried and displayed during the parade. The winning banner will receive a cash prize and they’ll all be on display at the Denbighshire Urdd National Eisteddfod 2020 which will be held at Kilford Farm near the town of Denbigh between 25 - 30 May 2020.
