Ysgol Dyffryn Yr Enfys Opens Its Doors

Pupils in the Caerhun and Trefriw area have started the new school year at their brand new multi-million pound area primary school in Dolgarrog.
Facilities at Ysgol Dyffryn yr Enfys include specialist teaching areas, classrooms, library and language unit. Improved access, grassed and multi-use sports pitches, together with new habitat and recreation areas.
Headteacher Karen Lloyd Owen welcomed pupils to their new school last week. She said: “It has been a very special opportunity to open a new school. Not only is the building and staffing structure new, some of the children have come together for the first time and families are from different local communities.
“Our first weeks at the school have been very busy, but all involved have given it their all to create a happy and open environment for the children to learn. The building and the facilities are fantastic and it’s an exciting opportunity. The reactions from pupils and parents have been very positive and long may it continue.”
Pupils were also eager to share their excitement.
“It is a very colourful school. We have lots of things that we didn’t have before. There is so much to do. It’s great to make new friends too.”
“When I saw it I thought it was cool and modern. I like the teachers and it is better as there is more space to play. It is very safe. I am looking forward to cooking in the Practical Room.”
Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills said: “I’d like to thank the Governors and local community for all their hard work and support to help us ensure the new building gives us a facility that matches the expertise of staff and will enable us to meet our high expectations for pupils’ potential.”
The new school was funded by the Welsh Government 21st Century Schools and Education Programme (50%) and Conwy County Borough Council (50%).
