28-year-old Steven Neale Sheehan of Jubilee Road, Barmouth in Gwynedd was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for 42 months when he appeared before Caernarfon Magistrates Court this week.

He pleaded guilty to charges including failing to provide a blood sample for analysis, driving whilst disqualified and driving without due care and attention following the collision in April this year on the A496 near Talybont.

Sheehan had taken a motorcycle without the owner’s consent and collided with an Audi A3 shortly after 10:30pm on Sunday 21st April. He was taken to hospital by the Ambulance Service with serious leg and foot injuries.

Sergeant Raymond Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Sheehan showed a complete disregard to the courts who had previously disqualified him from driving.

“Although he was seriously injured it is only by pure luck that this wasn’t a fatal road traffic collision.

“We all believe passionately in catching those who are prepared to risk lives and we will continue to pursue those who cause the greatest harm in order to make our roads safer for all. Drivers who do not hold a licence and are uninsured pose a significant danger to other road users. We hope this sends out a clear message to people who continually flout motoring laws that they face the prospect of custodial sentences, rather than just losing their driving licence.”
