Bangor University And North Wales Police – Police Degree Programmes

Bangor University and North Wales Police are delighted to announce their collaboration on the Police Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF) developed by the College of Policing.
Bangor University entered a competitive commissioning process and was successful in applying for the contract with North Wales Police based on its commitment to excellent teaching and its track record in relation to teaching and research in policing.
Bangor University and North Wales Police are working together to develop the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeships and the Degree Holder Entry Programme for North Wales which will be available to newly recruited Constables from 2020.
This is an England and Wales wide scheme which provides formal recognition for the skills demonstrated by today’s police professionals and the demands placed on them by an increasingly complex working environment.
New recruits who do not have a Degree will study for The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) which normally take three years to complete, during which time police constables will be combining their academic learning with work placed learning and assessment and will be signed off for independent patrol.
New recruits who already have a Degree undertake a Police Degree Holder Programme (DHEP) which normally takes two years to complete, during which time police constables will be combining their academic learning with work placed learning and assessment and will be signed off for independent patrol.
These two new Police entry route learning programmes lead to a Degree in Professional Policing Practice or a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice.
Chief Constable Carl Foulkes welcomed the new partnership. He said: “One of the key drivers for Police Education Qualification Framework is for professional education and operational policing to sit side by side. This is a new approach to policing and I am delighted to be working with Bangor University to offer this to our new recruits.”

This new venture complements our existing portfolio of professional education programmes and we are confident that the new degree programmes will contribute to a sustainable, well trained and professional workforce.
