Staff from Denbighshire County Council’s Countryside Service and a number of volunteers have cleared sections of Bruton Park Nature Reserve to make the area more accessible for residents.

Tree pruning, scrub clearance, coppicing and building habitat piles has opened up sections of woodland which were previously overcrowded, allowing visitors access to more of the seven hectare site.

Huw Rees, the Council’s Countryside and Heritage Services Manager, said: “I’d like to thank the volunteers and residents in Bruton Park for their support with this project, which is part of the Council’s work to protect and enhance the environment in Denbighshire.

“This has made a huge difference to the feel of the woodland and we hope even more residents will now use the area.

“The pruning work has really opened up sections of woodland, which were previously overcrowded, and now allows sunlight through to the woodland floor.

“Over the coming weeks we hope to plant some bulbs in these areas and next year we should see the likes of bluebells, snow drops and dog violets springing up and delivering a splash of colour to the woodland floor.

“Whilst improving the biodiversity of the woodland, this will also make an eye-catching addition to the area and a key feature that we hope will be appreciated by visitors to the park.”
