Two Severe Flood Warnings Issued For Monmouth

Thursday 28th Mar 2024

Tonight (Monday 17 February) Natural Resources Wales has issued two Severe Flood Warnings for the River Wye at Monmouth.

David Letellier, NRW Duty Tactical Manager for South East Wales said: “This means flooding that can be a danger to life.

“A multi-agency led evacuation of a Residential Park in Monmouth has already taken place this afternoon.

“We estimate that the level of the River Wye is expected to peak between 3am and 7am tomorrow morning, with a danger of overtopping the town’s defences.

“Professional partners and emergency services are working hard to make sure communities are as prepared as possible and urge people to take the warnings seriously and make arrangements to be safe.

“People are advised to take great care if travelling and never drive or walk through flood waters.

“Keep checking the forecast and visit our website for the latest flood warnings, updated every 15 minutes (www.naturalresources.wales/flooding ).

“There is practical advice there too on what to do before, during and after a flood.”
