Thursday 25th Apr 2024

A Denbighshire motorist has won a prize draw after completing a course to improve driving skills.

Nia Evans, 18, of Rhyl, won £250 after taking part in the Pass Plus Cymru course which provides new drivers aged between 17 and 25 with better driving skills, a chance of lower insurance and reduces the risk of being involved in a road collision.

She said: “It was a really informative course, I learnt a lot more about driving from it. I feel more confident on the roads and more aware than I was before.  I would definitely recommend the course to other young drivers.”

Nia, who said she was “thrilled” with her prize, paid £20 towards the course with the remaining costs being funded by a local authority grant from the Welsh Government.

The course focuses on driving techniques and hazard awareness, driving at night, coping with busy towns and cities, driving on rural country roads and motorway driving.

Cllr Brian Jones, Denbighshire County Council’s lead member for Waste, Transport and the Environment, said: “I’d like to congratulate Nia on her prize. The Council facilitates the Pass Plus Cymru courses in Denbighshire because it leads to better drivers on our roads which improves road safety for other motorists and pedestrians.

“I would encourage all new drivers to take advantage of the course.”
