Coronavirus Covid-19

Business
The Welsh Government has announced a package of support for businesses in Wales through the Coronavirus pandemic.
Details available on our website at: https://www.conwy.gov.uk/en/Business/Business-Rates/Welsh-Government-Business-Grants.aspx

Planning, Licensing and Trading Standards
Walk-in services are temporarily suspended, please phone or email for advice, or to make an appointment.

Trading Standards
To protect against the risks to public health from Coronavirus, Welsh Government has issued legislation requiring certain businesses to close.  Those permitted to stay open must comply with specific requirements, for example distance between people. The Council’s Environmental Health and Trading Standards officers will be enforcing these regulations.  Businesses are urged to comply with the new requirements at: https://gov.wales/coronavirus-covid-19-closure-businesses-and-premises-0

Other non-essential businesses must also shut: https://gov.wales/coranivirus-covid-19-closure-businesses-and-premises

Holiday Accommodation
Caravan Parks are one of the businesses that appear in the list of non-essential businesses that must shut.  But there’s an exemption for people that live permanently in caravan parks or are staying in caravan parks as interim abodes, where their primary residence is not available, they can continue to do so. More details at: https://gov.wales/guidance-holiday-park-owners-and-operators-coronavirus

Guidance for people running holiday accommodation has been published by the Welsh Government. It covers hotel, guest and self-catering accommodation: https://gov.wales/sites/default/files/publications/2020-03/coronavirus-guidance-for-holiday-accommodation-businesses.pdf

Food Safety
If you run a food business that has changed to operate as a takeaway or delivery service, Food Standards Agency guidance is available at https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/food-safety-for-food-delivery and https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/distance-selling-mail-order-and-delivery

Sunday Trading
To support the supermarkets efforts to help key workers and the vulnerable shop for essential food safely, the Council has taken steps to relax enforcement on Sunday trading rules.

Bonfires
Our public protection team have noticed an increase in complaints about garden bonfires.  Smoke can ruin neighbours’ enjoyment of their gardens, prevent them from opening their windows and hanging washing out and obscure visibility in the neighbourhood and on the road. Please consider others before lighting a bonfire.

Scams
As always, please be vigilant for scams. Guidance is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/be-vigilant-against-coronavirus-scams
If you have information about a scam or think you are the victim of a scam contact Citizens Advice on 03444 77 2020 or online at https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/cymraeg/consumer/scams/reporting-a-scam/

Social Care teams are continuing to deliver services to the public.  We’re following the latest government advice, this means sometimes we might be working slightly differently, for example making contact by phone rather than face-to-face, if it is appropriate.
Learning disability day services at Canolfan Marl, Canolfan Riviere, Children’s Clubs and work opportunities are closed.

Community Support
Do you know someone in need, or self-isolating? There are a number of people ready to help with shopping, collecting prescriptions, picking up the phone for a chat, and other support.  Find out what is available within your community (01492) 575544.

Galw Gofal
Galw Gofal is operating as usual, providing 24/7 emergency telecare and out of hours call monitoring service to help protect older or vulnerable people in their own homes. Galw Gofal is committed to helping our customers remain safe and well at this time.

Schools
If your child has free school meals, lunches will be provided for them.
If you are a key worker and are not able to arrange childcare for your children, Conwy Council’s schools will offer this to you. We must insist that if you are a keyworker and are able to provide alternative childcare provision for your children that you do this. For example, if only one parent is a key worker and another is at home, or not working that day, then you keep your child at home rather than send them to school.

Key workers whose children normally attend a Conwy school will be able to access childcare facilities in their current schools Click here for more information
