Venue Cymru has been identified as a site suitable for a temporary hospital.

Venue Cymru in Llandudno is to be converted into a temporary hospital providing around 350 additional beds to support Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s response to COVID-19.

Conwy County Borough Council, which owns and operates the venue, has been working with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Public Health Wales and the emergency services as part of contingency planning for the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Cllr Sam Rowlands, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council, said: “We’ve received a request from the Health Board to use some Council buildings to help meet the area’s health needs. We’re eager to do all we can to support our partners at this challenging time, and Venue Cymru was deemed a suitable choice because it offers sufficient space and infrastructure.”

“In line with national guidance, some of our services and premises have closed with many of our staff redeployed to focus on the priority services that we want to keep delivering for as long as possible. Alongside this, repurposing some of our buildings, such as Venue Cymru, is a key way we can support the response effort in North Wales.”

Conwy County Borough Council is working closely with Public Health Wales, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the emergency services to ensure that appropriate and proportionate arrangements are in place to respond to this rapidly developing situation.
