Have Your Say On How Local Forests Are Managed In The Bala Area

Wednesday 24th Apr 2024

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is inviting views on proposals to manage forest land near Bala for the next decade and beyond.

The Forest Resource Plan for the Aberhirnant & Llangower and Llanfor & Celyn forest blocks set out a long-term vision to maintain and enhance the resilience of ecosystems in the local area through sustainable management methods.

NRW – which manages the Welsh Government Woodland Estate – has set out key objectives for managing the forests, which include restoring habitats and peatland, increasing biodiversity, and maintaining a sustainable timber supply.

Mike Indeka, NRW Forest Planning Senior Officer said:
“Our forests offer so many benefits to the environment and to our communities. They help us in tackling the climate and nature emergencies, provide good quality timber for us to use, and are wonderful places to relax and enjoy.
“We have an important role to make sure that our forests are managed in a way that is sustainable and bring benefits – both now and in the future.”
He added: “We want to make sure that our approach to managing our forests secures these type of benefits and safeguards them for future generations.
“We really hope that people will take this opportunity to get involved in how their local forests are managed by giving us their feedback on our draft plans.”

A summary of the main objectives for the forests and all the draft maps are available to view on the NRW website. Alternatively, you can call 0300 065 3000 and ask to speak with a member of the team to request hard copies of the consultation documents.

The Llanfor & Celyn consultation will close on 16 December 2020, whilst the consultation for Aberhirnant & Llangower will remain open until 18 December.

Feedback can be submitted through the new NRW Consultation Hub at https://ymgynghori.cyfoethnaturiol.cymru/english or sent by post to Aberhirnant & Llangower/Llanfor & Celyn Forest Resource Plan, Natural Resources Wales, Government Buildings, Arran Road, Dolgellau, LL40 1LW.
