Men Who Care Campaign

Men Who Care Campaign

Friday 29th Mar 2024

This November, Foster Wales Conwy is raising awareness of ‘Men Who Care’ as part of a campaign to break down misconceptions about foster carers.

Child care and fostering has long been viewed as the remit of women. Historically, economically and socially, men were at work whilst women were the child care providers.

Society has evolved and gender roles have changed, however it’s often felt that the role of ‘parent’ is still assumed to be that of a woman. Even when men are joint foster carers with their partners, they report to feeling slightly overlooked in the process or feel marginalised at events and training.

Andrew, Chris and Liam recently shared their views on becoming foster carers. Their experiences will be aired on www.facebook.com/maethucymruconwy/ throughout this week.

Conwy County Borough Council’s Chief Executive, Iwan Davies, said: “We’re extremely proud and grateful to all our foster care families. I thank Andrew, Chris and Liam for sharing their experiences as part of the Men Who Care campaign; for being honest, and giving us all an insight into the difference they make to the lives of many children and young people. I hope their wise words will encourage many more men to become foster carers with Foster Wales Conwy.”

Thousands of men are foster carers throughout the UK, either as part of a couple or as a single carer. The significance of having a caring, honest, trustworthy man in the life of a child or young person is invaluable.

Foster Wales Conwy is open to recruiting individuals regardless of sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, race, or religious beliefs.
