Extra Cash Confirmed For Schools

Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Finance, Cllr Sam Rowlands, has updated Council on this year’s budget and extra funding for teachers’ pension rises.
Welsh Government has confirmed additional funding in 2019-20 to help meet the additional costs associated with pension changes previously announced by UK Government.
The extra funding, over and above what was expected for Conwy, is £257k.
Cllr Rowlands said: “We listened to the concerns of schools in relation to their budgets, that’s why councillors agreed that if we received any additional funding for pay pressures in schools it would be passed straight through to them to support their budgets.”
“Clearly it’s disappointing that we didn’t get the full amount to cover the whole cost, but our prudent financial planning means we have a bit extra that we can pass straight to our schools – and I’m pleased to make good on my promise.”
