Prosecution For Overweight Vehicle 09/07/19

Wednesday 24th Apr 2024

At Llandudno Magistrates Court on 09/07/19, Mr Johnathan Daniels, 151 Patterson Street, Birkenhead, CH41 4BQ was found guilty of driving a vehicle that was in excess of both its gross maximum weight and its rear axle maximum weight. The defendant did not attend at Court and the case was proved in his absence.

Mr Daniels was fined £1430.00, ordered to pay £500.00 costs, and a victim surcharge of £57.00. A total of £1987.00.

An operation was carried out between North Wales Police, Denbighshire Trading Standards and Conwy Trading Standards on 15 April 2019 at the weighbridge testing site along the A525 between Rhuddlan and St Asaph.

The gross maximum weight of the vehicle driven by Mr Daniels was 3500kg but the vehicle was found to be weighing 4780kg, which was 1280kg overloaded (36.57%).

A Conwy Trading Standards Officer said: “Overloaded vehicles put both the driver and other road users at risk. Vehicles react differently when the maximum weights they are designed to carry are exceeded and the consequences can be fatal. Overloading puts massive strain on vehicle tyres and makes the vehicle less stable, difficult to steer and take longer to stop.

It also causes serious damage to roads and infrastructure costing local authorities and other road users increased repair and maintenance costs”.
