Cases At Llandudno Magistrates Court - 08/10/19

At Llandudno Magistrates Court yesterday (08/10/19) Mr Chris Atherton of 8 Church Close, Penrhyn Bay, Llandudno, LL30 3LR was found guilty in his absence of failing to licence 21 Hawarden Road, Colwyn Bay, fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £100  legal and £98.25 investigative costs with a victim surcharge of £100. A total of £1,298.25  

21 Hawarden Road, Colwyn Bay is a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) and is required to be licensed under the Council’s HMO Additional Licensing Scheme which applies to Colwyn Bay.  Mr Atherton has failed to licence the property.

Also at Llandudno Magistrates Court yesterday (08/10/19), Mr Alan O’Reilly of 14 Lon Olwen, Kinmel Bay, Conwy, was found guilty in his absence of failing to license 10 Rhiw Bank Avenue, Colwyn Bay. He was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £100 legal and £163.75 investigative costs with a victim surcharge of £100 – a total of £1,363.75

Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Regulatory, said, “Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is important as it raises management and amenity standards, thereby protecting both the tenants and the local community.  Conwy County Borough Council is committed to raising the standards of HMOs and, as these cases clearly show, we won’t tolerate landlords who disregard their responsibilities.”
