The significant investment in leisure centre facilities across Denbighshire continues, with refurbishment work about to start on the all-weather pitches at Rhyl and Prestatyn Leisure Centres.

The existing all weather pitch surfaces have now come to the end of their natural life and will shortly be replaced with a new artificial astro - turf which is suitable for a range of sports including hockey and football.

The investment is approximately £350,000 and will secure this valuable all weather provision for both the associated schools and community sports programme.  This work comes hot on the heels of investments at other leisure centres county-wide.

The work on the all-weather pitch at Rhyl Leisure Centre will take 11 weeks to complete and will re-open at the end of September.  The works at Prestatyn Leisure Centre will take five weeks to complete and will re-open mid August.

Councillor Bobby Feeley, Cabinet Lead Member for Well-being and Independence, said: “We are delighted to continue our investment in leisure as there is a clear demand from the public for the use of our facilities for a wide range of sports, fitness and exercise activity.

"Many facilities across the country are struggling to stay open in the current financial climate and in Denbighshire we are bucking the national trend by actually seeing the benefits of investing in our facilities.  There is a significantly positive effect on people’s well-being, as well as major benefits to local community”.
