Make Yourself Heard

Make Yourself Heard

Friday 26th Apr 2024

Home should be the safest place for everyone at the moment but sadly this isn’t the case for victims of domestic abuse.

We understand that the disruption of daily routines and social isolation can make everyone feel like they are on top of each other and cause a strain on relationships.

That is why we are raising awareness of The Silent Solution. This is a system that is well established within our control room and is potentially life-saving. But it is only effective if the public are aware of it and understand how to use it.

If you are in danger, but are too scared to speak or make a noise, you can still alert the police that you are in a genuine emergency by calling 999 on your mobile, and pressing 55 when prompted. This will alert the call handler that this is a genuine emergency.

It is not true that a silent call will automatically be passed on to the police so it is important that everyone is aware of this system. Callers need to listen and respond to questions and can do so by coughing, tapping or by pressing 55 if using a mobile phone.

We hope you never have to use this system, but by being aware of it and making your friends and family aware of it too, it could potentially save a life.
