Denbighshire County Council is pleased to announce that fortnightly kerbside collection of textiles bags is to start operating from July 13th.

The service, which is operated by local social enterprise Co-options, who provide employment opportunities for adults with a learning disability, was suspended in March, in line with the Welsh Government’s Covid-19 restrictions, as textiles could not be collected safely.

The convenient collection service, that takes place on recycling collection day includes the full range of adults and children’s clothing items, paired shoes, boots, trainers, football boots and wellingtons.  Items such as handbags, belts, scarfs, ties, and good quality bedding and curtains can also be included.

Items can be presented for collection in a red Co-Options polythene bag, or for the first collection -  any type of bag, ideally labelled “Co-options”.  A replacement red bag will thereafter be provided for residents to use for during the following collection.

Good quality items are sold from the “Kit out the Kids and Family” shop in Rhyl which opens between 9:30am and 3:45pm on weekdays, and anything that can’t be sold is recycled through a textile merchant.

Residents who have queries regarding the service should contact Co-options directly on 01745 332300 or email office@cooptions.co.uk

The textile collections and shop are part a suite of social enterprises established to support adults with a learning disability. To find out more about Co-Options visit their website www.cooptions.co.uk.

Councillor Brian Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Waste, Transport and the Environment, said: “The textile collection service operates in north and central Denbighshire and is clearly valued, based on the amount of textiles that is collected by Co-options.

“We are delighted that the service is able to re-start and it’s another element of our services that we wanted to get up and running, as soon as it was practically safe to do so”.

John Turner of Prestatyn -  based Co-options Ltd, said: “ We are grateful for textile donations as they really make a big difference to individuals.

“We would like to thank people for being patient and bearing with us during the lockdown restrictions.  The support of Denbighshire residents has been amazing and I would like to thank them in advance for their on-going support.

“Our teams will be working to strict social distancing guidelines, as well as hygiene regulations and we’re looking forward to getting out there to start collecting once more”.
