Bus Travel In North Wales Is About To Become A Lot Easier!

Friday 26th Apr 2024

Bus travel in North Wales is about to become a lot easier as a new day ticket, called 1bws, launches this weekend.

From Saturday 17 July, one ticket will be valid on all local buses in North Wales. Once a passenger has bought their 1bws ticket from the bus driver on their first journey of the day, the ticket will be valid on all the other buses they use that day across North Wales.

The ticket will be accepted on every bus in Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey and Wrexham—and on buses from North Wales to Chester, Whitchurch and Machynlleth.

An adult ticket will cost £5.70, a child (or young person with a My Travel Pass) will pay £3.70 and holders of English and Scottish concessionary bus passes will also pay £3.70. A Family ticket is available for just £12.00. Welsh Concessionary pass-holders travel free.

Cllr Greg Robbins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation at Conwy Council Borough Council said: “This initiative is a positive step forward which will help to encourage local people and visitors alike to use the extensive bus network we have in North Wales. It is a great example of the benefits of partnership between local authorities, bus operators and Transport for Wales. This new single one-day ticket, available on all services, will open up new options for many and is only possible thanks to the operators who are commitment to improving access by bus.”

Public Transport Champion for Conwy, Cllr Philip Evans, added:

"This is a very welcome initiative which simplifies bus travel across the region, providing more options for passengers at potentially lower cost. There are buses covering most of the region. It is possible to explore the North Wales Coast, Snowdonia, the Clwydian Range, the Dee Valley… from the comfort of a bus in the knowledge that someone else is doing the driving and you are doing your bit for the environment.

The initiative is a great way to get people back on buses and open up the North Wales countryside for the summer in a way that protects the environment."

Timetable information for all buses in North Wales is available online at bustimes.org or traveline.cymru or by phone on 0800 464 00 00. Ticket holders planning to connect with a fflecsi service will need to continue to book their journey in advance via the fflecsi app or by contacting the customer service team on 0300 234 0300.
