We held our third annual Problem Orientated Partnerships awards this week which show-cased examples of agencies and businesses working to develop solutions to local problems so we can keep communities safe and focus on the most vulnerable individuals.
The ceremony held in Deganwy allowed us to celebrate the culmination of new projects and initiatives over the last 12 months and champion those that have made a real and positive impact to our communities.
There were three categories: Neighbourhoods, Partnerships, Creativity & Innovation.
The Neighbourhood Policing team in Holyhead won neighbourhood category and was overall winner for work with Holyhead McDonald’s on youth anti-social behaviour.
The Arson Reduction Team (North Wales Fire and Rescue & NWP) won the partnership category for work in Caia Park Wrexham.
Creativity & Innovation was won David Williams our design out crime officer for the Bridge Jumpers scheme aimed at discouraging people from the dangerous practice of jumping off Pont-y-Pair bridge in Betws y Coed for fun.
One application “Sharing Stories” received the judges’ discretionary award, a small financial grant that will enable it to help the young survivors of sexual violence. This very worthy project will help young people all over North Wales affected by the trauma of sexual violence.
Inspector Rob Rands said: “I would like to congratulate everyone taking part in these schemes which demonstrate real and effective community engagement in tackling local issues.
“This way of working together and finding innovative solutions is both rewarding and inspiring and plays an increasingly important part in our work .Well done to all this year’s entries and especially to the winners.”
