Colwyn Bay Crematorium Donates To St David's Hospice

Friday 26th Apr 2024

Local charity St David’s Hospice has received a £10,000 donation from Colwyn Bay Crematorium, with money raised from recycling metals.

The money was raised though the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management metal recycling scheme in partnership with Orthometals, which the Colwyn Bay facility is a member of.

The crematorium only recycles metals resulting from cremation with the written consent of each bereaved family. The money raised is donated to charities providing support or services for bereavement in the local area, with £95,000 donated in the last 10 years.

Cllr Greg Robbins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation at Conwy County Borough Council said: “We are very pleased to be able to donate this substantial sum of money to St David’s Hospice, which has continued to offer their much-needed services to local residents over the last year. We’d like to thank families who have given us consent to collect metals following a cremation, as without this we wouldn’t be able to offer this donation.”

James Wilde from St David’s Hospice, said: “The donation will be a big support to both patients and their families here at the hospice.”
